Who I Am...

Massage Therapist Since 2007:
Nicole was licensed and began practicing bodywork in 2007 in Chicago, Illinois. Her services were a mix of a clinical and intuitive focus, working with a combo of Chiropractic, Medical Fitness and her own personal practice on opening the body to facilitate healing in ways that do not touch the physical body, but create discomfort nonetheless. Over the course of 13 years, certifications and experience were in Pre and Postnatal Massage, Sports and Injury Therapy, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Thai Massage, Cupping, Reiki, Craniosacral Therapy I and II and Guided Meditation. She has always believed a healthy mix is useful to assess what the body needs to heal, and those needs vary from person to person and day to day. In 2017, Nicole completed her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training at Chicago School of Yoga in Lincoln Park, and said goodbye to a collection of amazing clients, students and friends in Chicago to try her hand in mobile massage in San Diego, California. She had every intention to continue the great work she had accomplished in Southern California, and did so until the unfortunate happened in March 2020. Her decision to leave the bodywork world might not have come at an expected time, but it was in her best interest to protect her clients and community by ceasing her practice at that moment. The amount of gratitude that is felt from having that much time with so many in a space where some are so vulnerable will be with Nicole forever. This was and always will be an unexpected gift of being a healing facilitator.

Believing that you are your best when feeling your best was what drove her passion for bodywork, and Nicole really loved the privilege and opportunity to help with that for a lucky 13 years. Moving that focus into Yoga Instruction is no different, and she hopes to utilize all the body knowledge she's attained in over a decade of hands on experience to help you find your place on the yoga mat. Nicole is  an advocate for ALL BODIES enjoying the benefits of yoga, currently studying Trauma Informed Yoga, is following the guidance of Susana Barakataki's Embrace Yoga's Roots, Yoga is Dead podcasts and aims to end the harm in wellness and yoga spaces by honoring this practice, the land and Indigenous Lives in which we're practicing and imposing upon.

**All BIPOC, LBGTQ+ will receive 20% off all practices, forever. No questions asked. Please kindly mention this upon booking, or your discount may be refunded to you at a later time. There are also sliding scale options if you prefer to fund another yogi's practice in place of your discount.

Some Massage Modalities are below and will be open to application during any of your Yoga classes once California is cleared for safe + close contact. Stay tuned on Instagram for some instructional videos on many self massage techniques @nicolemilleryoga.

Massage Modalities

Lymphatic Drainage: Light, feather touch massage to reduce swelling, intended to encourage natural drainage of the lymph carrying bacteria away from the injury site towards the nearest lymph node and out of the body to induce healing. You may experience some increased or lower energy levels, increased urination or perspiration after the session as lymph fluid is leaving the body through various lymph nodes. This modality is highly recommended for Prenatal clients in their last term due to increased swelling in the extremities, as well as rheumatism, scleroderma, edema from injuries such as breaks and muscle strains/sprains, and post surgery like varicose vein and liposuction to decrease healing time. Manual lymphatic drainage is also suggested in many diets and detoxes as it helps increase release of bacterial filled fluids. Nicole Miller Massage uses only hands, no machines in her sessions and treatments should not hurt. This an amazing modality without the painful pressure! This modality has the best effect with multiple sessions spaced out weekly, biweekly or monthly. Packages are available for a discount option. Wearing loose clothing and staying well hydrated on days of treatments is advised to allow free movement of lymph fluids, however if given compression clothing for post surgery it's advised you follow your surgical Doctor's orders for as long as advised.

Craniosacral Therapy: Light touch energy on the cranium and spine working with the cerebrospinal fluid that flows through the brain and spinal cord, working with its rhythms to release past traumas to the body, emotional and physical. This modality is only effective when the client is open to receiving energy work, and may take more than one session to be effective. It is usually performed fully clothed lying supine (face up) on a massage table during the session (must book min 1 hour session, may be mixed with other modalities). This modality has the best effect with multiple sessions spaced out weekly, biweekly or monthly. Packages are available for a discount option.

Clinical Thai Bodywork: (performed on the massage table or Thai mat) Considered "yoga for lazy people", Thai massage is a wonderful modality that uses compression massage as well and some passive stretching and releasing from the joints. This massage is done fully clothed* and it is recommended that you wear loose fitting clothes that would be easy to stretch in. This is a great modality for clients that are shy about getting massage but are curious, as it gives an amazing feeling just like massage without getting undressed. I administer this massage while on the table with you, so good communication of joint health is imperative, before and during the session. This is a little different than your usual pass-out massage sessions, as I will need your feedback during the session to find and release tension, and also your participation in breath awareness to do so. Working with Chuck Duff at The Chicago School of Thai Bodywork, I've learned to assess the body before your session to fully understand what is happening individually with posture, alignment and discomfort. Your first appointment will be 90 mins to make time for this assessment, and your treatment after that will be 60 mins in length.

Reiki: Using universal light energy, I place my hands on an injured part of the body or on the body's chakras (energy centers) and focus my energy to promote healing. This is also a form of energy work so it is important that the client has some belief in the modality for it to be effective. There can be little to no reaction in the body to the process during the session and it is said the client receives more from the session in days after the energy work is received. It is also good to try a few sessions to ensure its effectiveness.

Yoga Events: Create a euphoric space in your life event. Yoga classes can be held in your backyard, rooftop work event, beach day, wedding celebration or girls night. Book a group of yogi loving friends for an event that'll bond you forever. Connect with yourself and those close to you in a practice that can basically go anywhere (weather permitting). Each class is booked and billed  per time request, plus $10 each additional person. All fees are required for confirmation of event, 48 hour cancellation is required. No exceptions, please.
Student to Yoga Instructor:
Nicole has been acquainted with yoga as a student since 2003. As a young adult then, she began a meditation practice, working with various holistic healers and acupuncturists, and discovered a profound connection with her body as a budding yogini. Her focus in early years were not based on only asana, as she began her journey in Sanskrit Chanting shortly after. Multiple 40 Day Practices followed with these Mantras/Chants spoken with a Mala twice each day, 108 times each for 40 days. These 40 Day Practices were self guided, with weekly community meetings in a meditation group with The Lighthouse Emotional Wellness Center. This place, Meditation, Chanting and Yoga Asanas were the beacon of light for Nicole to begin to strengthen her spirit, honoring her personal growth process for the rest of her life after. Her journey began with yoga as a holistic way to heal herself. She finally added to her personal practice by pursuing yoga instruction in 2016 at Chicago School of Yoga with Instructor David Duerkop. With extensive knowledge of the body, she has learned what many others want is a natural way to self-heal, so she focuses on what the body is doing daily to create a challenging, productive class while giving your body what it needs. Practicing at home as well as a variety of traditional yoga studios in Chicago, she is influenced by a mix of Hatha, Yin, Ashtanga and Vinyasa practices, and is happy to individualize a practice for any body. We're not here to show off, all bodies can do yoga, we just have to show UP.

*Please note that all sessions are of a professional, therapeutic nature and Nicole Miller Massage has the right to decline any client or end any paid session at any time if uncomfortable.
